We are proud to announce that 1368 people voted in the Fall Senate elections on November 5th and 6th. Last year, only 473 students voted in the midterm elections. This represents a 189% increase in voter turnout.
On behalf of Student Union and the Recruitment & Retention Committee, I want to thank everyone who voted in the elections. This was our most successful midterm election in a long time. We could not have done it without the students.
This past Wednesday, Senate held internal elections for its leadership team. Here are the results:
Speaker of the Seante
Jordan Aibel (senate@su.wustl.edu)
Academic Affairs Chair
Kady McFadden (acaff@su.wustl.edu)
Campus Services Chair
Trevor Mattea (cserve@su.wustl.edu)
University Initiatives Chair
Alex Christensen (initatives@su.wustl.edu)
Congratulations to the newly elected Senate Leadership Team. We look forward to serving you in the coming term.
I want to thank all the freshman who voted in this year's Freshman Class Council election. We had 861 people vote. That is the largest turnout we've had for freshman class council elections within at least the last 5 years (maybe even ever...the archives only date back so far).
This was not only a historical election in terms of voter turnout, but also in terms of the competition. We had 17 qualified individuals all vying for the positions. To the 3 slated and the 2 independent candidates, I commend you for taking the lead and causing an effect on campus. No matter what the outcome of the elections are for you, I hope that you continue to be involved and remain and active leader on campus.
