As the Chair of the Campus Services Committee, I would like to let everyone know that the tabling and outreach efforts we started last semester will become visible initiatives for the SU Senate this fall.  We have compiled all of the suggestions and concerns students brought to us, and my committee is ironing out our agenda for this term.  We plan to work on smaller projects that should be easy fixes, and also to tackle bigger initiatives (such as Campus Circulation and increased awareness of WUPD security off campus).  I will be posting our plans for the summer and fall semester soon, and I look forward to enacting the changes YOU brought to our attention.  Senate is your advocate, and I am one who cannot wait to get started making that role into a reality.

Dear Students,

According to an email sent by Don Strom, Chief of Washington University Police, a young woman was mugged at gunpoint on the evening of Sunday, October 12th near the Delmar Loop and Greenway Apartment Buildings.

We encourage students to visit http://police.wustl.edu in order to find the latest information on this particular incident or any other incidents that happen on or around campus. The site is also a useful tool to find safety resources.

We are confident that the Washington University Police Department will act swiftly to address this situation and prevent future incidents. Student Union leaders will be meeting over the next couple of days to collaborate with Residential Life, WUPD and others to ensure the safety of students on and off campus. We hope to work with the Administration to accomplish a number of goals, including:

1) informing the entire student body about the incident because the scene of the crime is on a path that many students, not just residents of the Greenway apartments, use at night,
2) increasing the frequency of WUPD patrolling in the off campus residential areas,
3) increasing the Bear Patrol service range to include as many off campus spaces as possible, and
4) increasing lighting on the walkway to the Greenway apartments.
