Q: I want to start a student group. What do I do?
A: You need to select what category you want your group to fall under, write up a constitution, and fill out a new group application form. Your application will then be reviewed by the Student Group Activities Committee (SGAC) and you will either be approved or denied registration.
It is recommended that prior to applying for Student Union recognition, that your group has held a few meetings, events and has been in existence for at least close to one semester.
You can find more information regarding the categories, a sample constitution, and other information by going to http://su.wustl.edu/sgac.
The application is located at http://su.wustl.edu/general/groupresources/application.php
Please feel free to contact SGAC at sgac@su.wustl.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

Q: I'm an incoming freshman... how can I get involved?
A: There are many ways to get involved with Student Union. SU is much more extensive than your high school student government. Not only do we do the traditional activities, mainly through our Senate, but we also manage over 200 student groups on campus, plan large campus events, and even manage our own $2 million budget. For more information check out the rest of our website, visit us at the activities fair on September 8th, come to our information session on September 9th, or just stop by the office to chat.
If an elected position is what you're looking for, Class Council elections for the Class of 2008 will be on September 22nd and fall Senate elections are on October 21st.
There's much more than elected positions, however. Try out some of the Executive Committees, get involved with your School Council, apply for a spot on a University Committee, apply to be on the Constitutional Council, or simply visit a Senate or Treasury meeting.
You can also check out some of the influential legislative committees, including the Student Group Activities Committee (SGAC), which approves prospective student groups, allocates office spaces, assists student groups and runs the student group review, as well as the Budget Committee (BC), which runs the Cat I and Cat II budget allocations. If you are interested in getting involved with SGAC email sgac@su.wustl.edu. If you are interested in getting involved with BC, email budget@su.wustl.edu.
