Jeffrey Griffin
For his extensive support of the Student Group Activities Committee in helping organize the logistics of President's Orientation, volunteering to be the SGAC manager of the Umrath student group center, and being an effective and central member of the committee. Jeff has emerged not only as a leader in SGAC but also in the Treasury of Student Union as well. Thank you, Jeff, for all your hard work and dedication to SU.





The mission of Student Union is to create a vibrant campus community by: advocating for the needs and interests of undergraduate students, developing and implementing both innovative and traditional programs, and allocating the student activity fee to unique and engaging activities, programs, and initiatives.

It is the vision of Student Union to responsibly serve and empower every undergraduate student to be a force for change and improvement while fostering and preserving tradition at Washington University in St. Louis.



Sample Constitution

The following is a sample constitution. Student groups must submit a constitution in this form when applying to be an official Student Union student group. Please note, Articles V and VI are REQUIRED to be in ALL constitutions. If you have any questions, please contact Student Group Activities Committee (sgac@su.wustl.edu).

CONSTITUTION

The Beekeepers' Club

  1. Purpose
    The purpose of the Beekeeper's Club shall be to provide the Washington University community with an opportunity for beekeepers to get together and discuss the latest advances in beekeeping technology to educate the students and faculty of the University about the art of beekeeping.


  2. Membership
    1. The Beekeepers' Club is open to all, providing that at least one-half of it's members are full-time undergraduates of Washington University.
    2. Membership is acquired by attending a meeting, and may be maintained through regular attendance. A member may not miss more than two consecutive meetings, unless excused by an officer.
    3. No dues will be charged.

  3. Officers
    1. Officers shall be elected by members who have attended at least two meetings prior to the one at which the election is to take place. Elections shall be held at the end of each Fall semester. A plurality is required to be elected to office.
    2. Officers shall include:
      1. President, whose duties shall include:
        1. Presiding over the meetings
        2. Organizing club agenda
        3. Being responsible for equipment
      2. Vice-President, whose duties shall include:
        1. Acting as Present Pro-Tem
        2. Acting as link to Student Union
        3. Arranging for meeting space.
        4. Attending Student Group Council meetings
      3. Treasurer, whose duties shall include:
        1. Handling financial matters of club
        2. Attending the Student Union Student Group Treasurer Orientation
        3. Maintaining contact with Student Union Treasurer
      4. Secretary, whose duties shall include:
        1. Keeping minutes
        2. Checking the club’s e-mail account
        3. Maintaining the club’s webpage
        4. Advertising
        5. Keeping club records
    3. Any member may request an impeachment vote. Impeachment requires a two-thirds majority vote by members who have attended at least three meetings prior to the one at which the impeachment vote is held.

  4. The Constitution
    1. Any member may request a vote to amend the constitution. An amendment requires a two-thirds majority vote by members who have attended at least three meetings prior to the one at which the vote is held.
    2. A current copy of the constitution must be submitted to the Student Group Activities Committee of Student Union at the beginning of each semester.
    3. Any changes to the constitution by the club must be submitted to SU through SGAC with the original and with the changed version.

  5. The Beekeeper's Club will not engage in any activities which violate:
    1. The Washington University Charter
    2. The University Judicial Code
    3. The Constitution or By-Laws of Student Union, or endanger the taxexempt status of the University.

  6. The Beekeeper's Club will not explicitly or implicitly advocate acts of cruelty toward other individuals or groups, nor advocate the violation of any individual civil rights.
