Open Positions

Rep. of the Moment

Jeffrey Griffin
For his extensive support of the Student Group Activities Committee in helping organize the logistics of President's Orientation, volunteering to be the SGAC manager of the Umrath student group center, and being an effective and central member of the committee. Jeff has emerged not only as a leader in SGAC but also in the Treasury of Student Union as well. Thank you, Jeff, for all your hard work and dedication to SU.

The mission of Student Union is to create a vibrant campus community by: advocating for the needs and interests of undergraduate students, developing and implementing both innovative and traditional programs, and allocating the student activity fee to unique and engaging activities, programs, and initiatives.

It is the vision of Student Union to responsibly serve and empower every undergraduate student to be a force for change and improvement while fostering and preserving tradition at Washington University in St. Louis.

Legislative Committees

The Legislative committees are part of one or the other of the two legislative houses. Academic Affairs and Campus Services fall under the Senate's domain while the Budget Committee and Student Group Activities Committee are part of the Treasury.

Senate - Academic Affairs (AcAff)
The Academic Affairs Committee (AcAff) strives to take a proactive role in any resolving issues that can potentially hinder WU students from realizing their true potential. Our role is to mediate these issues between the administration and the student body in a timely fashion. AcAff prides itself on presenting forums and presentations in which students can seek information that will facilitate a better understanding of the policies that underlie the academic programs of the university. In the past few semesters, we have presented Cluster Busters (to address the concerns and alleviate the confusion of the new Arts & Sciences curriculum), Life of a Professor (an candid look into the lives of those individuals who teach undergrad students), and the first-ever Financial Assistance and University Finances Information Session (to educate students on the various scholarships and loans available while administrators in which administrators explain the reasons for changes in the annual amount of tuition and answer questions).

Senate - Campus Services (C-Serve)
The Campus Services Committee deals with all non-academic services on campus, such as food, health, the environment, safety, shuttles, parking, construction, mail, the bank, the campus store, and the athletic complex.

This year it will be focusing its efforts on the environment, health and wellness, and student involvement. C-Serve hopes that it will in particular be able to establish stronger ties with the many student groups focused on similar issues. If you have questions, concerns, or just want to gripe, send C-Serve an email.

Member

Senate - University Initiatives Committee (UI)
The University Initiatives Committee deals with non-academic policies that affect current students as well as future Washington University undergraduates. Strategic approaches to University policy and long-term initiatives are handled by the University Initiatives Committee.

Senate - Technology Resources Committee (TRC)
The Technology Resource Committee (TRC) exists under the Senate and consists of individuals talented and knowledgable in issues of online technologies. It is a springboard for student input on the technology and information systems available to enhance students' educational experience. These technologies include the University's main webpage and supporting pages as well as student specific informational technologies (WebSTAC, Telesis, etc.). The TRC strives to be pro-active in meeting student needs and working with the University to develop solutions to address any requests from the student body. If you have any problems, questions, or suggestions relating to technology and informational resources on campus, please feel free to contact TRC.

Treasury - Student Group Activities Committee (SGAC)
Student Groups Activities Committee's (SGAC) main objective is to provide assistance to and be a resource for student groups at Washington University. Whether it is helping groups enlighten the student body about an important issue through lectures, discussions, and educational handouts or helping a social group to put on a successful event that enriches the social culture of the campus, SGAC is here to provide assistance. On the administrative side, SGAC acclimates newly approved groups to the Student Union structure, maintains contact with established groups, and helps prospective groups through the application process to become an SU-sponsored group.

Treasury - Budget Committee
The Budget Committee is a standing committee of the Treasury. Its job is to review budget policies and to decide the budget allocations for the nearly 200 student groups that request funding each semester. It is composed of members of the Treasury as well as outside members of the campus community (who can apply and are subsequently appointed). Getting involved in the Budget Committee is a great way to influence the way Student Union distributes its money.
