Senate
The Senate is comprised of 27 people representing the five undergraduate academic divisions of Washington University; it constitutes one house of the legislative branch of Student Union and makes many official Student Union decisions. There are currently 18 Arts and Sciences senators, three Engineering senators, and two each from Architecture, Art, and Business. Each senator represents 250 students from his/her academic division and serves a one-year term.
Senate meetings are held every Wednesday at 9:02 pm in Simon Hall on the Hilltop Campus. They are attended by Senators, SU Executives, and all other members of the Washington University community. Senators discuss campus issues, university proposals, and reports from the Executives and Committee Chairs. Senators also attend the Academic Affairs or Campus Services weekly committee meetings.
Senators strive to better the Washington University community by serving as a channel for student opinions and concerns. In past years, one of the Senate's goals was to increase communication between students and Student Union and between students and the University Administration. One of last year’s major accomplishments included the publishing of ArtSci Course Evaluations online. This year the Senate strives to continue to improve the quality of campus life and with the students of Washington University. Senators reach out to the student body through surveys, forums, and activities that promote interaction between administrators and students.
