PRESIDENT JEFF NELSON:
Hi,
My name is Jeff Nelson and I am your Student Body President.
As you prepare for Orientation, I hope that you are thinking about the Freshman Reading Program. When you arrive in August, you can look forward to engaging in deep discussions with your floormates, your residential advisors, student associates and a faculty member about this year’s book When the Emperor Was Divine.
The freshman reading program will be one of your first intellectual pursuits at the University and it is designed to unite you and your fellow classmates together with a common experience.
The Class of 2013 comes from a diverse array of high schools—from all over the country, and in some cases, all over the world.
Now, each of you will help to establish a new community here at Wash. U. and we hope that the Freshman Reading Program will provide a solid foundation for this new community.
So, if you haven’t already done so, start to read the book, search around the website. I’ll see you in August.
