Beat Therapy

Annie’s Hope

Annie’s Hope Bereavement Center for Kids provides comprehensive support services for children, teens and their families who are grieving the death of someone significant. Beat Therapy volunteers spend a few hours at a retreat for teens to write and record music. Volunteers facilitate the songwriting process as an expressive, healing tool.

Volunteers should have some musical knowledge, but a range of experience is accepted!

In the past we have created songs using

  • Voice (singing/spoken word)
  • Guitar/ukulele
  • Solo instruments (flute, violin, etc.)
  • Handheld percussive instruments
  • As well as music recording and production equipment

Songwriting retreats happen once or twice each semester on Saturday evenings. Sign-ups are sent out through the Beat Therapy email list and are based on a first come-first serve basis.

If you would like to reserve a spot in advance, email beattherapy@su.wustl.edu
