  • Introduction and “How Treasury Works” presentation Speaker of Treasury

Stereotypes Presentation

  • AcapellaEd is an education event that brings collegiate a capella groups and experienced instructors together for a day of workshops and masterclasses.
  • 10 participating groups
    • 5 Wash U
    • 5 non-Wash U
  • Biggest cost is compensating instructors: $3,500 ($500 each)
  • Travel for non-local instructors: $1,061
  • Lodging for non-local instructors $1,032
  • Cleaning fee for 560 Building: $140
  • Meals: $170
  • Administrative Expenses (nametags and sharpies): $20
  • Discussion
  • Groups should help in paying honorarium
  • We should support honorarium
  • Motion for $0
  • AcapellaEd helps the groups a lot
  • Amend for $2961.50 (1/2 of original)
  • we value this event for Wash U groups which is why we should fund for 1/2
  • Collective A Capella fundraising account is over $14,000
    • They can do it from their fundraising – don’t need SU’s fundraising
  • Motion to make amendment main motion: passes 13-4
  • $2961.50 becomes main motion
  • If these groups didn’t have any fundraising I think this would be a very different conversation – we should fund for ½
  • Point of clarification – can you explain how SU is involved with fundraising
  • I like both arguments – main question is where should money come from
    • Want to subsidize event and have guests pay
  • Amend to $1323.25
    • Passes 15-2
  • Amendment becomes main motion
  • After Dark – funding would help a lot
  • Treasury Rep to Stereotypes: “Charging for event?”
    • Stereotypes – would charge evenly since groups would get an even experience
  • Motion to vote fails 1-16
    • Rep wants to be clear on number
  • Amendment miscalculated
  • Amendment of $1480.75 proposed
    • Passes 17-0
  • Stereotypes – Other groups may not be able to pay and may drop out
    • May lead to individual burden becoming higher on groups that don’t drop
  • Stypes – this goes beyond what a classroom can provide
  • Motion to vote fails 4-12
  • Stypes – A Capella budget is not a shared budget – it is broken between individual groups
  • Main motion passes 12-5-0
    • Funded for $1480.75

Catholic Student Union (CSU)

  • Last year retreat had 121 students
  • Revised cost of what CSU is asking for – $6449.41, dividing cost 3 ways between members, Catholic Student Center, and Student Union funding
  • Questions
  • Important to go off campus because it helps students disconnect from school
  • “Any fundraising?”
    • Comes from charging students
  • “Did you guys not put on event?”
    • CSU – we did, just not in Track Spending
  • Discussion
  • Main motion to cut out Todd Hall
    • Got no second, failed
  • Motion to fund in full at $6449.41
  • Questions about funding supplies
  • Supplies rule is only specific to Budget Committee
  • CSU – dry run is part of retreat and necessary – like tech rehearsal before a play
  • Motion to vote on main motion
    • Passes 14-2-1
    • Funded for $6449.91

Women’s Club Soccer

  • Regionals trip to Dallas, Texas
  • Compete against best teams in region
  • Reputation of success
  • Driving takes too long and would miss both Friday and Monday class
  • 18 players and 2 players – ~$300/person for roundtrip flight
  • Requesting $6000
  • Regionals money would be repurposed to nationals
  • Questions
  • Need 1 sub GK and 5 sub field players
  • Most of funding comes from SU through Sports Club Board (SCB) and SCB only gives funding for nationals
  • Budgeted for nationals hotels and flights
  • “Would you have appealed to us for nationals?”
    • To SCB – but won’t ask for money for nationals since getting flights for this tournament and don’t want to appeal for flights twice in one semester
  • Point of information – treat this appeal as normal appeal, will handle SCB w/ VP Finance later
  • Motion to fund in full for $6000.00
  • Moving into discussion
  • Discussion
  • Proposed amendment of $5200
  • Point of information: Be careful with programming for group
  • Motion to vote on amendment
    • Fails 0-17-0
  • Back to $6000 for main motion
  • Motion to vote to vote
    • Fails 0-17-0 (because point of information about why flight is $6000)
  • Vote on main motion
    • Passes 17-0-0
    • Funded for $6000.00

Changing Statute

  • VP Admin takes floor
  • Drafted amendment on what impact abstentions have on voting process
  • Passed Senate unanimously

  • PASSED SENATE, PASSED TREASURY – IN EFFECT
