SU Vice President of Public Relations Announces Resignation

Student Union’s Vice President of Public Relations, Brian Benton, is announcing that he will resign from SU Exec effective immediately. Benton announced his resignation internally on January 26, 2015 in a letter, citing personal reasons.

Benton has been an asset to the Elevate! Administration and Student Union as a whole through his roles on Social Programming Board and Student Union. He has worked on a variety of Public Relations efforts including the It’s On Us campaign and the redesigned Student Union website.

Unfortunately, he determined that his time could be more effectively used elsewhere. We are thankful for Brian’s service to Student Union and wish him well in his future endeavors.

Brian Benton stated in a resignation letter: “It has been my privilege to serve the school and work with this dedicated group of co- officers. I am grateful for all the experiences and the skills I have developed, and I take pride in our accomplishments. I hope to remain a resource to Washington University’s student groups, and if I can be of any help through the remainder of the semester, please do not hesitate to ask. I wish all of Student Union the best for the future.”

The Elevate! Administration is actively looking for a replacement for Benton and plans to make an announcement of a successor within the next two weeks. After an application and interview process, Elevate! intends to nominate a replacement who will assume office upon confirmation by Senate and Treasury.

The application can be found here and is due January 30th at noon. All students are encouraged to apply and information about the position can be found in conjunction with the application. Individuals who are interested or have suggestions for replacements should contact

Benton was elected to SU Exec on the Elevate! Slate last April along with Emma Tyler (President), Vivek Biswas (Vice President of Administration), Nick Palermo (Vice President of Finance), and Laura Roettges (Vice President of Programming). For the interim, Vivek Biswas will handle all communication directed towards the Public Relations position and student groups should expect no delays in ongoing projects.
