Student Union Senate and Treasury elected their respective speakers, juniors Ben Hauser and Iliana Ragnone, at Tuesday’s session in races that each included three contestants.
Following the school-wide Student Union elections every semester, Senate and Treasury members elect their new leadership.
Hauser, the incumbent Speaker, was re-elected to his position. Ragnone served as budget committee chair for Treasury this semester, and this will be her first semester as Speaker of the Treasury. She takes the place of junior Bill Feng, who did not run for re-election in the fall SU election.
As Speaker, Ragnone said she hopes to give feedback to student groups and to better train Treasury representatives on procedural issues to allow for more discussion.
“A lot of times we try some outreach following Treasury or allocations or activities committee, so getting groups feedback is something that I think is really important and that I take to heart,” Ragnone said. “Additionally, we’re doing a lot more with training of representatives, making sure representatives, whether new or old, are up to date with the processes and trying to make everything flow better so that we get to spend less time working on procedural issues.”
Treasury also elected sophomore Sydney Robinson to serve as activities committee chair and sophomore Katie Wood as budget committee chair. This will be Robinson’s second semester as activities committee chair, while this will be Wood’s first position in Treasury leadership.
In addition to selecting Hauser as speaker, Senate chose sophomore Varun Lahoti to be resolutions committee chair, junior Chris Hall to serve as projects committee chair and sophomore Tyler Tran to be student affairs committee chair. Lahoti and Hall served in their respective positions this semester as well, while this will be Tran’s first semester as student affairs committee chair.
