Increase in Funding Percentage for Category I Student Groups:
This past spring, Budget Committee reviewed student group budgets for the Fall 2018 semester. After allocating all of the Category I and Category II budgets, Budget Committee had to apply a funding percentage of 91% to all Category I groups budgets. This percentage was necessary because Student Union funds available for the upcoming fall semester were not sufficient to cover 100% of the money that the committee voted to provide. However, when closing out accounts from the 2018 fiscal year (which covered the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters), we found that Category I student groups left money in their SU accounts. This means that money was allocated to these student groups for the 2017-2018 school year, but was not spent during that time. We have decided to apply the unspent funds from last fiscal year to the Category I groups’ fall budgets, meaning that we are now able to fund all Category I student groups at the full 100% that Budget Committee originally decided for their Fall 2018 budgets. The change in funding status for all group budgets should already be reflected in SU Finance, so that the amounts under “Allocated” and “Funded” should be the same. If there are any Category I student groups who do not see this change reflected on their SU Finance pages, please let us know.
If you have questions about this decision and how it may impact your organizations, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am available at firstname.lastname@example.org to answer any questions you may have about this change or the money that is facilitating it. If you would like any clarifying information about the student group budgeting process, please reach out to Agneesh Dasgupta, Budget Committee Chair, at email@example.com. We recognize your frustrations in the initial lower funding percentage, and are thrilled to be able to redistribute these funds to your organizations for the upcoming semester. We can’t wait to see the programming all of you bring to campus in the fall!
Fall 2018 Accounts & Appeals Requests Opening:
The 2018-2019 school year will officially open in SU Finance on July 20th! In order to access your group’s SU Finance portal, you must re-register in WUGO, and then your credentials will sync over to SU Finance. (Please click here for more information regarding WUGO registration). Once registered in SU Finance, groups will be able to start spending their funds for the fall semester and programming, with help from their Business Coordinator and GPS advisor(s). After the 20th, student groups may also begin submitting appeals to be reviewed by Treasury and/or the VP Finance. Please keep in mind that your appeal will not be evaluated over the summer. The first Treasury session of the 2018-2019 school year will be Tuesday, September 4th. We have no expectation for groups to be submitting appeals over the summer, but the option is there if you so choose. If you have any questions, please reach out to Alia Nahra, Speaker of Treasury, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fall 2018 Activities Fair Sign Up:
Registration for the Fall 2018 Activities Fair is now open! Last fall, we had over 350 student groups and organizations represented. The fair will be held on the Friday of the first week of classes (Friday, August 31st) from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. With its wide reach across the entire student body, especially with new first year students, the Activities Fair is the best way to promote your student group and recruit new members! You can register your group for a table using this WUGO form. Please reach out to Activities Committee Chair, Andrew Kocins, at email@example.com with any questions.
Student Group Leaders Training (SGLT):
On Saturday, September 8th from morning to mid-afternoon, Student Union will be hosting our first Student Group Leaders Training! This training will be mandatory for student group presidents, treasurers and strongly encouraged for other group leaders including social chairs, etc. There will certainly be more information to follow about SGLT, but this is just a way for you all to get it on your calendars since we will be back to school in no time.
If you have any questions about the information above, or anything else SU-related, please let me know!
P.S.- If you are no longer the president/treasurer of your organization, please forward this email to whoever will be filling the position in the fall.
